The City Manager's Community Coalition Against Bias & Hate and the Greater Worcester Community Foundation invite you and your organization to participate in a workshop on:
Building a More Inclusive Workplace: Understanding & Addressing Unconscious & Unintentional Bias
Tuesday May 12th, 2015. Choice of Workshop times: 8:30AM-12 Noon OR 1:30PM-5:00PM
Program Description:
Despite conscious egalitarian beliefs and the best of intentions, we can still be creating environments in which people feel disrespected, misunderstood, and marginalized. When this occurs, we lose their full participation and create barriers to effective collaboration. In this interactive workshop, we will explore unconscious and unintentional bias and how it is manifested in different facets of an organization such as hiring practices, various administrative decisions, interpersonal relationships, and group dynamics. We will discuss how individuals from various marginalized groups experience microaggresssions (commonplace, often unconscious negative slights and insults) and their impact. Participants will gain concrete strategies for both overcoming and addressing unconscious bias and microaggresssions in order to foster more equitable and inclusive workplaces and communities.
Targeted Audience:
This workshop is specifically designed for senior level leaders of government, corporate and non-profit organizations. Agencies are strongly encouraged to attend with their senior management team, which may be comprised of board officers, directors, human resources directors and/or key program staff.

Testimonial from past participant:
"Knowing about Dr. Diane Goodman's research and work for many years, my colleagues and I had high hopes for her engagement with the Virginia Center for Inclusive COmmunities. However, she exceeded all of our expectations! Her workshop for Richmond-area business and community leaders was engaging, thought-provking, grounded in theory, and highly practical. Dr. Goodman' is a gifted facilitator and educator, and participants still refer to examples she shared nearly a year after her work with us. I look forward to future opportunities to work with her, and highly recommend her." -- Jonathan C. Zur, President & CEO, Virginia Center for Inclusive Communitiies
