Historian Walter Stahr to Speak to
Civil War Round Table on October 10th

Prize-winning historian Walter Stahr will once again be the featured speaker at the upcoming meeting of the Inland Empire Civil War Round Table on Wednesday, October 10th at 6:30pm in the Assembly Room of A.K. Smiley Public Library.

Stahr will discuss the life of William Henry Seward, who served as Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln, and was the man who purchased Alaska after the Civil War. Prior to his time in the State Department, Seward was an innovative Governor of New York and the senator who famously claimed that slavery was against a "higher law" than the Consitution. Stahr will have copies of his bestselling biography of Seward for sale and signature.

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is requested, but not required. The Lincoln Memorial Shrine is located at 125 W. Vine Street in Redlands. For more information, please contact the Heritage Room at (909)798-7632.

The Inland Empire Civil War Round Table  is a non-profit organization open to anyone interested in the American Civil War, 1861-1865. Founded in 1987, the Round Table is both a setting for formal talks and a forum for informal discussion of topics related to the Civil War. The group meets the second Wednesday of each month (except February, July, and August) from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Lincoln Memorial Shrine. The Round Table also publishes a monthly newsletter, The Hardtack.
