"Construction and the new Architectural Design Practice – Contemporary Issues and Concerns."
Presenter: David N. Garst Attorney at LawLewis, Thomason, King, Krieg & Waldrop, P.C.
Objective 1 – Understand the roles played by the different parties to the construction process and how they can contribute to creating healthy, environmentally-friendly buildings
David Garst will also include information about Design and Construction Documentation.
Construction of any project requires an enormous volume of specialized and interconnected documentation. Designers devote countless hours to creating drawings and other instruments of service, contracts, contemporaneous records of decisions made during design and construction, correspondence and emails, logs, minutes, photographs, evaluation of contractor activity, payment documentation, and certification of completion. Documentation is the most time intensive and costly activity undertaken by a design professional. Why do we do it? Is it worth the cost and effort? This seminar addresses the reasons for design and construction documentation, things that must be documented and things that should not, records retention, and a designer's duty to preserve and share documents in a claim or dispute.
