ADVANCED Essential Management Skills in the Public-Sector Certificate Program - Elko

This program assists graduates of the original Essential Management Skills Certificate Program to apply the skills learned.  In this two-day program, participants will review the major employment laws and legal updates.  Participants will also work through a case study where they will act as the “Manager” of the department and determine how to proceed at various stages.  Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their decisions as well as the consequences of their actions or inactions.  Completion of both days is required to earn a certificate.

Note: This course is only available to graduates of the “Essential Management Skills” Certificate Program.

By the end of this certificate program, participants will be able to:

  • Consider legal obligations and personnel policies as well as management responsibilities and common-sense approaches.
  • Identify the proper steps to take in various scenarios.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Assist in reducing liability in their organizations by recognizing the elements of Title VII, the requirements of the FLSA, and the interaction between FMLA, ADA, and workers’ compensation.
