EMU 2016 Youth Summer Camps 

Summer's just around the corner! EMU 2016 Youth Summer Camps are a great way to engage your kid(s) in unique camps that will teach them awesome skills, while expanding their knowledge. Our instructors are professionals that are sharing their industry knowledge and experience to give each youth a rich and powerful platform to explore their interest.

NOTE: Our system will only allow for one camp to be registered at a time. We are sorry for the additional steps. You must go through the registration process for every camp that you would like to attend. Thank you for understanding.

Program Title: Digital Inclusion Basics           Instructor(s): Mike Billings

Program Ages: 11-18                                       Program Date(s): July 5, 6, 7 & 8

Program Location: Sill Hall from 1pm-5pm Program Fees: $315 ($250 + $50 mandatory fee)

Program Description: Digital Inclusion Basics is the perfect starter class for individuals wanting to learn how to repair and rebuild a computer. Class sizes are small (up to 16) allowing for one-on-one student and teacher interaction in a laboratory type setting.

 

Program Title: Digital Inclusion Advanced        Instructor(s): Mike Billings

Program Ages: 11-18                                  Program Date(s): July 18, 19 ,20 & 21

Program Location: Sill Hall from 9am-12pm     Program Fees: $250

Program Description: Digital Inclusion Advanced is a computer software and troubleshooting technical training program for teens ages 11-18. This 20 hour class has a limited enrollment of 16 students. 

 

Program Title: Intro to Entrepreneurship    Instructor(s): Jack Bidlack

Program Ages: 11-18                                        Program Date(s): July 25, 26, 27, 28 & 29

Program Location: TBD from 9am-12pm            Program Fees: $250

Program Description: Students are introduced to the concepts of entrepreneurship, receive training on writing and conceptualizing a business plan, learn product/concept development, and develop critical thinking and analytical skills.

 

Program Title: Digital Drawing in Photoshop       Instructor(s): Jermaine Dickerson

Program Ages: 11-18                                                      Program Date(s): July 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15

Program Location: TBD from 1pm-5pm                       Program Fees: $315 ($250 + $65 mandatory fee)

Program Description: Students will learn the fundamentals of digital drawing in Photoshop while using a graphics tablet. Students can bring their own tablet or rent one $50. 

 

Program Title: Creating Vector Art in Illustrator Instructor(s): Jermaine Dickerson

Program Ages: 11-18                                                      Program Date(s): July 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22

Program Location: TBD from 9am-12pm                 Program Fees: $250

Program Description: From bizarre cartoon characters to detailed illustrations, students will be challenged to push their creative sensibilities doing vector art.

 

Program Title: Community Poster Art                     Instructor(s): Jermaine Dickerson

Program Ages: 11-18                                                      Program Date(s): July 25, 26, 27, 28 & 29

Program Description: Students will create a series of posters that will be wheat-pasted throughout the community. This will inspire students to amplify their creative voices and create an empowering experience.

  Creating a Socially Relevant Play                               Director of CloseUP Theatre Troupe

 Program Ages: 13-18                                                      Program Date(s): July 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13 & 14

Program Location: TBD from 9am-12pm **             Program Fees: $250

Program Description: Young people chose issues and/or subjects they want and need to give a voice to and subsequently build a theatrical production during the camp for the public. This is a one week program with conclude with a community performance on the final day at 5pm (**).

 

Program Title: Geek-Hood:                                         Instructor(s): Lee Schwinghamer

            An Anime/Manga /Cartoon Camp

 Program Ages: 13-18                                                      Program Date(s): July 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22

Program Location: TBD from 1pm-5pm                       Program Fees: $250

Program Description:  Learn the history and present of animation. Explore the canon and non-canonical fan-generated mythos (and possibly make your own!).  Use it to better prepare yourself for your Role playing characters, OC's (original characters), cosplay, by applying outside traditions philosophy and aesthetic criticism.  Use the skills you learn in other venues of your life, expanding your fandom into a healthy, integrated schema applicable to your own day-to-day life. 

 

Program Title: Cartooning: Writing & Drawing   Instructor(s): Schwinghamer & Dickerson

Program Ages: 13-18                                                      Program Date(s): July 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15

Program Description: Translate visuals into words and words into visuals. Create your own comic book or cartoon concept for public presentation by camp’s end. Writers and artists encouraged to attend, will pair up possible collaborators for creation.

Program Description: Students learn photography skills while addressing a community issue. Students chose an issue within the community and bring attention to it utilizing photography.
