MCMXIV: The Origins of the Great War

In the summer of 1914, World War I erupted with a spasm of violence.  A century later, we ask “Why?”  What were the origins of the Great War that forever changed the world?

Millions died, empires fell, nations arose, and the League of Nations emerged. Join us to discuss the circumstances that led to war and the lessons we can learn.

The Embassy of the German Federal Republic and The President Woodrow Wilson House host a panel discussion featuring Professor Michael Epkenhans, a military historian from Potsdam University in Germany, Professor Mustafa Aksakal, an Associate Professor in the Department of History and the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and Professor Elizabeth Thompson, an Associate Professor of History at the University of Virginia. The Executive Director of The President Woodrow Wilson House, Robert A. Enholm, will be the moderator.

Reception and refreshments to follow.
