Morning Session: "Normalization for the At-Risk Child"

The uneven development of the child who learns differently and has challenges with attention results in a different path to normalization.  This presentation focuses on the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) child, whose neurological differences require a highly structured program and more direct teaching of self-control skills than the child who develops typically. Joyce Pickering is an internationally renowned Montessorian who specializes in serving children at risk for a myriad of learning differences using adaptations to the Montessori approach. This essential information is geared towards educators of children ages 2 1/2 through Elementary and beyond. The Morning Session will be held from 9:00 - 11:30 am.

11:30 - 1:00 pm - Lunch on your own at the nearby restaurants including those at the Yorktown Mall.

Afternoon Session: "Organizing the Disorganized Child"

Children with learning differences and ADHD often have challenges in organizing their work and prioritizing their work choices. This workshop is geared towards educators and educational leaders serving children in Early Childhood and Elementary Montessori classrooms.  During this afternoon session Joyce will build on the morning's content, explaining how to recognize the types of attention deficits and support the growth of executive functioning skills, offering strategies to help these children develop organizational skills.  The Afternoon Session will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
