North Dakota Department of Health: Puerto Rico Medical Response.

*** This is a message from the North Dakota Department of Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Section
for ESAR-VHP responders for potential Puerto Rico deployment. ***

We are checking for interest and willingness to respond to Puerto Rico in the event of an EMAC request for medical assistance.  We anticipate the need could exist during the next eight weeks.  If you express interest and we receive an EMAC request, we will contact you with specific mission dates and to check your availability.

The duties include working and living in a medical shelter or medical facility serving an impacted area with no infrastructure and support services in a primitive setting.  There will also be physically and mentally challenging circumstances including walking and climbing on unpaved surfaces, standing for long periods of time and lifting objects.

  • This request is for nurses, EMTs/paramedics, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians.
  • Applicants must be registered with the North Dakota Medical Reserve Corps/PHEVR at http://www.ndhealth.gov/EPR/HP/PHEVR/
  • Transportation will be arranged and provided by the state. Do not make your own travel arrangement or incur any expenses unless specifically told to do so.
  • We anticipate working conditions to be 12-hours shifts for 14 days.
(An additional travel day to and from Puerto Rico is added to the time commitment to make the total time 16 days.)
