2017 Memphis Holocaust Educational Conference Featuring Holocaust Survivor Paula Burger
The Tennessee Holocaust Commission (THC) is proud to announce the 2017 Memphis Holocaust Education Conference on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 9:30 AM- 12:30 PM (CST) at The Univeristy of Memphis, UC Theatre: 499 University Street, Memphis, TN 38152.
This year's program will feature Holocaust survivor, artist, and author of a memoir entitled Paula’s Window, Paula Burger. Paula was a girl of 11 when she, her father and little brother joined the legendary band of resistance fighters, the Bielski Partisans, who outwitted German troops for two years while hiding in the Polish forests. Paula will share her childhood journey through the Holocaust and her triumph over trauma through art and the love of her family.
This one-day conference is open to the public and specifically designed for middle and high school teachers and students to provide them with additional knowledge and resources about the Holocaust. Educators are encouraged to identify mature students to accompany them to the all day workshop for hands-on activites and interaction with survivors and educators in the field of Holocaust studies.
There is no cost to attend the conference. Registration is required and space is limited.
Lunch: Lunch will NOT be provided as part of the conference. We encourage participants to bring a sack lunch to eat during the lunch hour.
Bus Drop Off: Students may exit the school busses on Central Avenue in front of Fogelman Executive Center and walk to the University Center Theatre.
