"Voices of Hope & Resistance: Where Memory Leads"

The Irvin and Elizabeth Limor Educational Outreach Program sponsored by the Tennessee Holocaust Commission.

The Tennessee Holocaust Commission (THC) is proud to announce the 2017 Irvin and Elizabeth Limor Holocaust Education Conference on Tuesday, October 24th from 10:00 AM- 3:00 PM (CST) at The Temple Ohabai Sholom located at 5015 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205.

This year's program will feature Holocaust survivor Roman Kent. During the war, he lived in the Lodz Ghetto and in the Auschwitz, Mertzbachtal, Dornau, and Flossenburg concentration camps. Mr. Kent serves as President of The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous, Chairman of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, Treasurer of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, as well as a member of their negotiating committee, and a member of the Board of Directors of American Friends of Tel Aviv University.  Mr. Kent speaks about his personal experience during the Holocaust and issues impacting survivors today.

The conference will also feature Paula Burger, an artist and author of a memoir entitled Paula’s Window. Paula was a girl of 11 when she, her father and little brother joined the legendary band of resistance fighters, the Bielski Partisans, who outwitted German troops for two years while hiding in the Polish forests. Paula will share her childhood journey through the Holocaust and her triumph over trauma through art and the love of her family.

This one-day conference is open to the public and specifically designed for middle and high school teachers to provide them with additional knowledge and resources about the Holocaust. Educators are encouraged to identify mature students to accompany them to the all day workshop for hands-on activites and interaction with survivors and educators in the field of Holocaust studies.

There is no cost to attend the conference. Registration is required and space is limited.

  • Lunch: Lunch will NOT be provided as part of the conference. We encourage participants to bring a sack lunch to eat during the lunch hour.
  • Parking: Parking for the conference is free and available at the Temple.

Teachers, please familiarize yourself and your students with all of the educational links found in the panel on the left.
