Description:
Voters in many countries have expressed extreme frustration with the political establishment and have leaned towards candidates that run on a populist and/or nationalist platform over the past few years, repeatedly catching investors off guard. Modern history provides limited insight but past episodes of extreme political instability as well as the struggles of previous empires highlight that the current undercurrent of social unrest is nothing new. It is also unlikely to dissipate anytime soon. The key for investment strategy is how newly elected governments go about calming social unrest.
Phillip will draw from past examples as well as economic and political theory to provide a framework for understanding the current forces driving political instability as well as the appropriate investment strategy for a more uncertain environment.
