This workshop will provide a broad overview of the steps necessary to start a small business. Discussion will include the business plan, type of legal ownership possibilities, marketing, accounting, insurance, and many other items that have to be considered for starting a business.
The presenter, Mike Burson, is the Greater Chico Area SCORE chapter chairman and has been with SCORE for three years. Mike is a Civil Engineer and retired as the President of the statewide construction organization, Lyles Construction Group (LCG), one of the largest and oldest construction businesses in California . Mike spent his entire 40 year career with the various companies that comprise LCG, involved with all aspects of operations, administration, and management. He was a 20 year board member of the Golden State YMCA, in Rotary, and Founding President of the Visalia Wesley Foundation. Mike’s family owns two small businesses in downtown Chico.
SCORE is a nonprofit organization that provides free, confidential, one-on-one business mentoring services to prospective and established small business owners in the United States. More than 10,000 volunteers at 300 chapter locations provide these services, with all volunteers being active and retired business executives and entrepreneurs. SCORE is affiliated with the U.S. Small Business Association.
