What are we looking for in a TEDxTalk?

  • An idea that has never been shared before.
  • Stories that show your curiosity and passion for your subject.
  • Laughter is always a good
  • Failure is as important as success and is warmly welcomed in any TEDxTalk.
  • TEDxTalks are a global brand and some subject matter is inappropriate for TEDx (no political or religious agendas, pseudoscience or commercial promotions), or the pitch (TED is very strict on commercial promotions appearing in a TEDxTalk) and in others it might be the content (not every story is TEDxTalk story).

Are there parameters to TEDxTalks?

  • A TEDxTalk is a story with beginning middle and end. It takes the listener on a journey and provides an insight into the subject that they did not have before. It is not a conversation, sales pitch or rant. It is not an expression of an opinion.
  • TEDxTalks can last up to 18 minutes. Often it will be shorter but it cannot be longer. (Longer talks are not "more special").
  • You are expected to learn your speech, no stage notes are allowed in a TEDxTalk.
  • All speakers are assigned a speaking coach and will be assigned deadlines to rehearse your talk. No exceptions.
  • Professional speakers are welcome, though we would expect an angle different to your typical style.
  • A TEDxTalk is not a commercial platform for your career, company or creative endeavors. You take the stage and stand on the red circle for the love of sharing an idea.
