The Academy NICRT is pleased to offer the ICISF-certified course Advanced Assisting Individuals In Crisis. This will be an online course using Zoom. Registrants should have already taken the basic course Assisting Individuals in Crisis.
About the Course:
Crisis Intervention is NOT Psychotherapy; rather, it is a specialized acute emergency mental health intervention which requires specialized training. This program is the second in a two-course series entitled Assisting Individuals in Crisis Intervention. The program is designed to teach crisis interventions it applies to assisting individuals in crisis, one person at a time. It does not teach group crisis intervention; although some of the skill sets contained herein are certainly applicable to group intervention. This program will teach advanced scenario-based crisis intervention techniques based upon an understanding of the basic crisis intervention concepts, principles, and tactics taught in the first assisting individuals in crisis program.
Course Highlights:
- Nature & definitions of a psychological crisis and psychological crisis intervention
- Nature and definition of critical incident stress management and its role as a continuum of care.
- Empathic communication techniques
- Practice of psychological triage
- SAFER-Revised model of individual psychological crisis intervention in suicide scenario
- SAFER-Revised model of individual psychological crisis intervention in a “follow-up” or referral scenario
- Risks of iatrogenic “harm” associated with psychological crisis intervention and will further discuss how to reduce those risks
- Principles of self-care
Course Date & Times
June 14 & 15 from 12:00 Noon EDT to 7:30pm EDT each day. Short breaks and a longer meal break will be provided during the class hours.
- This online class will be held using the Zoom Meeting application. You should ensure you have devices and Internet connections that support the continual use of Zoom.
- This Zoom Class is required by ICISF to have the video on during all class instruction and activities.
- Once you have completed this registration for the class through Constant Contact, you will receive instructions and the link for Zoom Meeting.
- At registration you will need to provide your mailing address, email address and phone number so we may mail your course manual to you in advance and also contact you regarding any aspect of the course including technical support for Zoom.
