Melissa Harrison-Hiatt oversees absence management operations which includes intake, administration and account management of short-term disability and leave of absence claims. Melissa and her team are responsible for helping employers ensure compliance with FMLA and numerous state leave laws. In addition, her team helps employers manage lost time and productivity due to employee absences.

Melissa has served in a variety of roles related to operations, technology and compliance in the banking and insurance industries for the past seven years. She has expertise in process management, analytics and reporting and received her MBA from the University of Denver.

Michael J. Klachefsky
National Practice Leader
Standard Insurance Company

Michael represents The Standard as spokesperson and thought leader for Absence Management, the Workplace Possibilities Program, Workplace Productivity, and the cost of absence. He speaks at conferences, publishes articles and papers, and has been in the media to talk about productivity and absence. Michael conducts numerous broker and consultant training events, and consults with brokers and employers on the cost benefit of managing absence and disability.

Before his current role, Michael was the Assistant Vice President of Managed Disability Programs and Services, and was the USA National Practice Leader for Absence and Disability Management. Prior to The Standard, Michael was with Mercer for 16 years in both US and Canada.

Michael is active in the Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC), represents The Standard on the Research Committee of the Integrated Benefits Institute and the Willis Clinical Advisory Board.He earned his bachelor's degree from Wayne State University in Detroit.
