Fleisher From a Distance: Wind Challenge Edition with Jessica Curtaz

While Fleisher's exhibitions are on pause, join us online on Mondays for compelling conversations with past and present Wind Challenge artists. Established in 1978, the Wind Challenge Exhibition Series has enriched the lives of countless visitors and introduced audiences to contemporary art created by the region's emerging artists.

Jessica Curtaz, a 2019 Wind Challenge artist, is a Philadelphia-based street artist and arts advocate. She crochets weeds, insects, real and imaginary creatures, and other over-sized flora and fauna onto the urban landscape, bringing a feminized craft out of the home and onto the streets. She is an advocate for increasing the autonomy of marginalized populations as well as strengthening their voices in the larger community. To these ends, she has led several public art projects, including with students at the PA School for the Deaf, housing insecure populations in Kensington, and immigrant and refugee populations in South and Northeast Philadelphia. She is currently working on a 66 foot, ceramic and painted mural with fifth-grade classes at the Joseph Catharine School in West Philadelphia.
