Add to my calendarIt is time to take on a new hobby, an extra household chore, but one that will leave you smacking your fingers and lips after a delicious local meal. In our society, the day whizzes by full of errands, carpools, commutes, stopping for gas, stopping for a quick bite to eat, softball games, after-school activities, you name it someone’s probably busy doing it! Take charge of your dinner table and put some hard work into little mason jars and enjoy the harvest for an extended amount of time.
The jelly section will be making jellies from seasonal fruits, mmmmm think of the cold winter slathering your homemade jelly on warm buttered biscuits! Pickling – learn how to can items such as okra, peppers, cucumbers – our hands project in the class will be what’s available for us that particular day. The Pressure Cooker style of canning is learning how to can green beans, we will snap beans and learn how to pop them into mason jars with a nice tight seal. Just think how exciting the winter will be when you take your own canned green beans out to make a nice holiday dish like Green Bean Casserole?!
