Hands are for Holding, Parenting Beyond Punishment Workshop
National SpankOut Day is April 30th! Join us to support each other in finding better alternatives to spanking and yelling. We all want children who demonstrate kindness, show respect and get along with others. For children who struggle with tantrums, disobedience and oppositional behavior, parenting can be so frustrating. We can often lose our cool! Join us to learn about brain savvy ways to discipline and guide children and help them self regulate so they can feel better. Because when children feel better, they do better.
Join the community of positive parenting and get the support you deserve, because parenting should feel good!
WORKSHOP Topics
Amy Stoeber, PhD Create a deeper sense of connection in your family. Dr. Stoeber will talk about how to build resiliency in yourself and your children in order to help your child better tolerate frustration and manage his emotions. She will teach practical skill building exercises that parents will find immediately useful.
Robbyn Peters Bennett, LPC, CMHS Children who have high ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) often have poor self-regulation skills, which means more tantrums, ignoring directions, oppositional behavior, and irritability. This makes parenting and caring for these children really hard work! Robbyn will discuss how we can use the art of co-regulation to help children feel safer in their bodies, manage their stress response, and feel more connected to us. We call this the "green zone" and when a child is in the green zone, she feels better and can therefore do better!
Melissa Enter with Massage in Schools Program (MISP) will share research on the benefits of structured touch activities in schools and families that have been shown to:
