Clergy Retreat, Fall 2015
The clergy of the Diocese of Bethlehem will gather for personal refreshment, contemplation, worship and fellowship. We will explore the teachings of Dr. Frederick W. Schmidt, Jr., a leader in the area of spiritual formation.
Guest leader: The Reverend Dr. Frederick W. Schmidt, Jr.
A leader in the area of spiritual formation, Fred will engage us in conversation about
the characteristics of a caring Christian community, the particular ways in which
clergy can foster such community, and the leadership choices essential to the task.
Drawing from his latest book, The Dave Test: A Raw Look at Real Faith in Hard Times,
Fred will invite us to examine our faith with honesty and integrity.
Frederick W. Schmidt holds the Rueben P. Job Chair in Spiritual Formation and
directs the Rueben P. Job Institute for Spiritual Formation at Garrett-Evangelical
Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. An Episcopal priest, spiritual director,
and retreat leader, he is the author of seven books, including When Suffering Persists
and What God Wants for Your Life.
Fred and his wife, Natalie, who is also an Episcopal priest, live in Chicago with their
Gordon Setter, Hilda of Whitby.
