Sex Trafficking in Tribal Communities
Across our region, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) has seen an increase of trafficking cases involving our most vulnerable, our Native women and children. We know that our tribal communities are at exceptionally higher risk for poverty, domestic and sexual violence, and substance abuse, which can often turn into pathways leading into sex trafficking and exploitation.
Yet, we collectively hear the phrase... "But it's not happening in my community."

This training seminar is intended for tribal, state and federal advocates, service providers, criminal justice professionals and leadership working in our New Mexico tribal communities. It will serve to enhance attendees' understanding of what sex trafficking looks like in tribal communities, the dynamics of sex trafficking, how to identify trafficking and what's being done to address the problem. The training will include in-depth discussions of effective strategies for identifying and responding to our Native women and children who are being trafficked in our communities.
Attendees will explore ways to improve response and coordination at the tribal, state and federal level.
