"Christian Simplicity"
Tuesdays, Feb. 10 to Mar. 31, 2015 | Meal, Programs, Groups & More

Voluntary simplicity is a growing movement among Christians around the world. As we awaken to the realization that our habitual and daily choices are damaging creation and impoverishing other members of the human family, people of faith are asking: How can we live in a way that is environmentally sustainable and socially just?

Many people in the United States now believe that our cultural priorities are out of whack. The greed, selfishness, and consumer mentality that drive our country are disturbing realities. They crowd out more meaningful values, such as family time, community involvement and spiritual fulfillment. Many people would like to get their lives back in balance. Some people are moving toward a more simple life because it offers greater satisfaction than our high-stress consumer society. But simplicity is no longer an alternative lifestyle only for a few ascetics. If we are going to live sustainable lives, we are going to have to change.

During our 8-week discussion course on “Christian Simplicity,” we will journey through:

Feb. 10:  Christian Simplicity: Compassionate Living
Feb. 17:  “Fat Tuesday” Pancake Fellowship Supper &  UUMC's Annual Children’s Talent Show
Feb. 24:  Food: Buying and Eating Are Moral Acts
Mar. 3:  Consumption: Buying Less, Wasting Less
Mar. 10:  Water: Conserving and Protecting
Mar. 17:  Energy: Choosing Efficient and Cleaner Alternatives
March 24:  Transportation: Getting Around
March 31:  Gratitude and Generosity: Becoming Involved
