2016 NACCTFO Legislative Conference

NACCTFO workshops will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel located across the street from the Omni Shoreham Hotel where a block of sleeping rooms is being held from February 18 - 21. The NACo Legislative Conference will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel and registration is now available. If you are planning to attend both NACCTFO and NACo, you will need to make two reservations, but you can remain at the Omni for your entire stay since it is a NACo hotel. Friday, February 19th

Morning Session: 8:30 am - 11:15 am The Feds & Unfunded Mandates
The American system of government is a federal one, and there is a constant struggle between the states and the national government about who should do what and how. Counties are part of the state government but they occupy a peculiar space in the system. This session will explore how federal, state, and county governments work together (or not) to achieve common goals. The focus will be on unfunded mandates: What they are, what the trends are, how to work with them.

Lunch on your own: 11:15 am - 1:00 pm

Afternoon Session: 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm The Legislative Process
The conventional wisdom of the U.S. Congress these days is one of gridlock, polarization, and negativity. This session provides an overview of today’s legislative process, focusing on what the upcoming elections means for county treasurers.

Saturday, February 20th

Morning Session: 8:30 am - 11:15 am Investment Practices
This session will provide an update on the current interest rate environment from an economic perspective with a focus on investment strategies in such uncertain times.

Luncheon: 11:15 am - 1:15 pm NACCTFO Business Meeting

Afternoon Session: 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm Strategic Human Resources Management
This session focuses on discussing basic principles and current trends in employee retention and engagement in public organizations, from a strategic management perspective. Topics include: employee motivation, reward systems, and good managerial behaviors and habits, and dealing with generational differences.

The final agenda will be emailed to all registrants.

Cancellation Policy

Refund of conference registration fee, less an administrative fee of $25, will be made if a written notice of conference registration cancellation is received no later than January 31, 2016. Cancellation requests should be sent to info@NACCTFO.org. No refund requests will be honored for registrations cancelled after February 8, 2016 or for “no-shows.” Note: You are responsible for cancelling your hotel reservation.
