This enlightening presentation will provide an overview of pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), including its presentation and current assessment and treatment guidelines. The workshop will review common symptoms of OCD in youth, examine assessment methods and strategies for differential diagnosis, and discuss current behavioral and medication treatments for pediatric OCD.There will be a focused review of exposure and ritual prevention, which is the front-line behavioral treatment for pediatric OCD. Demonstrations and role-plays will be utilized to display therapeutic techniques.

Workshop Objectives
At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to
• Identify common symptoms of pediatric OCD
• Describe assessment methods for pediatric OCD
• Discuss current treatment guidelines for pediatric OCD, with a focus on exposure and ritual prevention


Presenter:
Anthony Puliafico, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University and Director of the Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders. Dr. Puliafico specializes in the assessment and cognitive-behavioral treatment of anxiety, mood, and externalizing disorders. His research focuses on the treatment of pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder and the adaptation of cognitive-behavioral interventions for young children. Dr. Puliafico received his B.S. with Distinction from Cornell University, where he majored in Human Development, and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Temple University. He completed his Clinical Psychology internship at Bellevue Hospital Center/NYU Medical Center, where he served as a clinician at theNYU Child Study Center. Dr. Puliafico completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CUCARD). His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and he regularly lectures on the treatment of pediatric anxiety disorders.

Workshop Continuing Education Credits

Three (3) continuing education credits will be offered for PA Social Workers & Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, NBCC Counselors, and under Act 48.*

NBCC: Foundations Community Partnership (FCP) is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.
Psychologists: Foundations Community Partnership is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education to psychologists. FCP maintains responsibility for this program and content.
PA Social Workers: PA State Board accepts APA and NBCC approval for SW, MFT, and LPC.
Educators: Application has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for three Act 48 Continuing Education Credits.
