Workshop #1  The Neurobiology of Stress and Anxiety (The Good, the Bad & the Ugly)

This workshop will provide an overview of how stress and anxiety impacts the body and mind in development, with a focus on leveraging and nurturing good stress, identifying bad stress, and how to react in the moment to either one.

Workshop # 2 Variations on Development (from the typical to the troublesome

This workshop will survey the different profiles of development (the anxious person, the slow processor, the controller, the quiet one), and how to understand them in terms of what’s typical (everyone is excited by the new thing) and what’s troublesome (I can’t handle new things, or I  can’t wait my turn with the new thing).  Participants will be discuss the diagnostic criteria, but the emphasis is on how the person presents in terms of tolerating, complying and participating in group structured activities.

Workshop #3 The IDEA Strategy (Managing Meltdowns & Episodes of Distress)

This workshop will focus on the critical importance of creating a strong alliance between parents and teachers.  The workshop will include strategies on, creating the alliance before concerns are raised, how to identify when it’s time to talk to parents, what should be brought to the discussion, and best practices talking with parents about teacher concerns.
