Young children engage in reasoning about physics and engineering design when they try to figure out how to achieve an exciting result by building structures with pathways for marbles and other objects that roll. This training, based on the CEESTEM Module,will provide opportunities to experience an appealing physical science and engineering activity, learn the importance of considering alternative explanations and re-design, increase your confidence in teaching science and engineering, and discuss how to implement it in your programs.

Exploring Bubbles and Foam

The science of bubbles is all around us in the form of objects made of foam: naturaland human-manufactured sponges, couch cushions, flip-flop sandals, and even theinsulation on space vehicles. In this training, learn how young children can make foam,and try it yourself, using dish soap and hand whisks or electric mixers. We’ll discusshow to help children investigate the properties of foam while they play.

Participants will identify the “math” in the world around them to spark joy, wonder and discovery with children. We will explore math learning opportunities in literature and play. We will infuse language and supports to amplify their learning.
