Sunday Drumming Classes with Ibrahima Camara

April 13, 2014 thru June 1, 2014

Ibrahima Camara

Join us for an 8 week series of Djembe drumming classes as taught by Senegalese Artist Ibrahima Camara. Just arrived back from Senegal last week, Ibrahima is the man who brought djembe to Boston and all of New England and my first djembe teacher preparing me for a life on the djembe.

In these 2-hour sessions from 5pm - 7pm on Sunday evenings, we will learn more about the djembe and dunun drums and get into some great drum grooves. You will get technique, personal attention, solo phrasing, improvisations, breaks and a solid dose of learning African djembe with an African teacher. These are all hands-on classes so bring your djembe (or borrow one of our professional drums), and a bottle of water.

Register for the 8 week semester as soon as possible as we are limiting this class to 14 attendees. We would cancel a class only in case of bad weather.

(If the registration doesn’t take you, we are full and you may request to be on a waiting list in case someone drops out. Please email me for the wait list at alan@drumconnection.com)

If you play djembe, this is the place to be! Make Sundays your African drumming day and add healthy rhythms and energy into your life!

Directions are displayed on your left and you can always reach me at 781-316-8068 DrumConnection. Parking is easy on Mass Ave and even easier if you read about our secret spots.

Ibrahima Camara

Ibrahima Camara's roots originate with the Serere and Malinke ethnic groups and he was born and raised in Dakar, Senegal. Mr. Camara entered into a traditional apprenticeship study at a very early age and, after completing his apprenticeship he began his career as a performer with the National Ballet of Senegal and Les Ballets Africain de Djabel Gueye.

In 1968 he achieved the position of Lead Drummer and Musical Director for Senegal's foremost performance company, The National Ballet. By this time he had attained distinction of Master Drummer. Since 1974, Mr. Camara has resided in the United States where he continues his work as performer, choreographer, artistic director, bandleader and teacher.

The cost is $225.- and you will be able to complete your registration with any credit card, Paypal or 'mail-in' check. Pretty sweet! See you there.

Thanks for your support of African artists in Boston, as always we are grateful.

Sincerely,
