January 2021 update: Our fall 2020 fundraising drive has concluded. Thank you to all contributors for helping make it a success! Donations can be made anytime through our Make a Gift page.
Dear Friend,
My name is Morgan Washington-Leslie, and I teach fourth grade and the Healthy NewsWorks program at James Logan Elementary School in Philadelphia. When asked to share my first-hand experiences with Healthy NewsWorks, I jumped at the opportunity. There is so much I want to say about this exceptional program and the many ways it has impacted the lives of our young students.
What the student reporters say
“In the end, I loved everything about Healthy NewsWorks. Now I can talk to little crowds. Back then I couldn’t talk to 2 people at a time. Now I talk to 20–30 people in classes.” —Fifth grader
“I learned that it’s okay to be shy sometimes but sometimes we have to get out of our shells.” —Fifth grader
“When I first started this, I thought I was gonna mess up but when I tried it, I didn’t mess up. So then I kept doing my work and it was really fun to do.” —Fifth grader
“I loved the newspaper. I loved the teachings. In the healthy newspaper, I felt like I was saving the world. Doing facts was the best part. It was so fun doing the interviews.” —Fourth graderHow your gift can help
