The agriculture industry is moving at a very quick pace, yet over time a number of trends have been developing slowly that are shaping the landscape for agri-marketers. Drawing upon a number of important pieces of marketing research, including the Large Commercial Producer Study, Justin Funk of Agri Studies will discuss five key trends that have been overserved over the past 10 years and explain how these trends may evolve into the future and affect how buying decisions are made on Canadian Farms. These trends include:
- Meaningful changes in farmer demographics and how this is impacting the agribusiness industry
- Increasing importance of the multi-generational farm
- Changes in distribution and the impact on the members of the marketing channel
- Changes in producer attitudes towards retailers and brands and how this is impacting purchasing behaviours
- How a combination of these trends may impact the future of marketing communications
Justin is the Owner of Agri Studies, a marketing research and professional development firm based in Guelph, Ontario. In addition to his work with Agri Studies, Justin has a faculty appointment at the University of Guelph teaching Marketing Strategy in the MBA in Agriculture Program, and serves as an associate faculty member at Purdue University in the Center for Food and Agricultural Business teaching Executive Development Marketing programs. Justin is the National Chairman of the Canadian Agri Marketing Association.
